Business Improvement Districts Scotland (BIDS) has been established to support and encourage the development of Business Improvement Districts across Scotland and to aid the regeneration and asset management of our towns, cities and villages.
BIDS leads the Scottish Government's BID programme which includes the development of pathfinder BIDS in Clackmannanshire, Bathgate, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow and Inverness. All except Glasgow have now been to ballot and were successful, with Bathgate becoming the first BID in Scotland and Inverness the first city centre BID as well as being the first BID in the UK to involve property owners in the BID strategy. The Clackmannanshire BID is the first commercial BID in Scotland, the first county wide BID and the first commercial BID in the UK to involve property owners in the BID strategy. The Scottish Government is currently supporting the development of BIDS across Scotland and in addition to central support is offering a development grant of up to £15K to assist business groups or local authorities to develop a Business Improvement District. All of the information, examples and guidelines (which are bespoke to Scotland) on this website are free to those business groups and associations, working in partnership with their local authority, who wish to develop a BID in Scotland. The member’s area includes detailed information which is only relevant to developing BIDS.
